University of Nebraska golfer Tanner Owen is the top seed for the Nebraska Match Play Championship, but he won't know his first-round opponent until Wednesday morning.

Owen, who recently wrapped up a strong college season for the Huskers, fired a second-round 66 Tuesday at The Players Club in Omaha to win the stroke play portion of the event by four shots.

The top 32 finishers in stroke play are seeded into a match play bracket. Because of poor weather early Tuesday evening, a playoff for the final spot in the match play field between Michael Croker and Luke Gutschewski was suspended.

The playoff started with five players competing for four remaining spots in the match play bracket.

Owen will face the Croker/Gutschewski winner at 9:30 a.m. First and second-round matches will be played Wednesday, with quarterfinals and semifinals scheduled for Thursday and the 36-hole championship set for Friday.

Last year's champion, Alex Schaake, isn't competing this year as he prepares to play in the Sunnehanna Amateur.
