Softball promotes Armitage: Mike Armitage has been promoted from a volunteer assistant coach to a full-time assistant by Illinois State head softball coach Melinda Fischer.

Armitage replaces Tara Archibald, who recently left ISU to become head coach at Eastern Illinois.

Armitage just finished his third season as an assistant softball coach for the U.S. Junior Men's 19U National Team, and was a participant with the International Softball Congress, as well as the NAFA and ASA, for nearly 20 years.

He was head softball coach at Lexington High School for three years prior to joining the ISU staff last season. As a player, Armitage was on multiple NAFA All-World teams and was an ASA major First-Team All-American.
