May 16-- May 16--Former Gophers point guard Isaiah Washington has picked Iona as his transfer destination, according to a report Wednesday from college basketball reporter Jon Rothstein.

Washington, a New York City native, won Mr. Basketball in his home state and now will return there to play at the college based in nearby New Rochelle, N.Y.

"Go gaels, jelly home," Washington said in a tweet Wednesday night. Washington's nickname is "Jelly Fam Dimes" and Iona's mascot is the Gaels.

Iona won the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference championship last season and went to the NCAA tournament, falling to No. 1 seed North Carolina in the first round.

Washington entered the NCAA transfer portal April 1 after his sophomore season. The 6-foot-1 guard averaged 4.3 points and 2.8 assists across 16.2 minutes in 28 games last season -- fewer points, minutes and games than his freshman season.
